Walking in the Black Mountains - Grwyne Fawr

I am trying to keep up with my preparation for the Wye Valley Walk by getting up into the Black Mountains near Abergavenny. 

Today I set off along the Grwyne Fawr River, then up past the reservoir of the same name and into the hills above. The uplands were alive with displaying Meadow Pipits and Sky Larks, with constant song throughout the walk. Best birds were a pair of Dippers on the lower river and a Red Grouse near Twyn Talycefn. 

This walk is 10 miles in total with a height gain of 450 metres. 

Preparing for the Wye Walk

Started my preparation for the Wye Valley with a 10 mile walk along the Wales Coastal Path from Caldicot to Rogiet then to St Pierre and back across the fields to Caldicot.

I am walking the length of the River Wye this Spring to raise money for Serian UK, which funds Noonkodin School in Tanzania. Noonkodin provides education for the local Maasai community, celebrating Maasai culture and providing a refuge for young women escaping genital mutilation and forced marriage.
