Best bird in March

Maybe surprisingly, March was not as productive as February. The best bird was without doubt the Great Spotted Cuckoo at Penally in Pembrokeshire. I have missed out on this species several times over the years and had not seen one since a trip to Spain in the Spring of 2004. By the time I had a chance to start digiscoping, the light was fading fast so I was restricted to a few "grab" shots just before it flew to roost...

The only other unusual species during March was a Spoonbill that I found whilst carrying out my WeBS count at Goldcliff, Newport Wetlands NNR. The year list at the end of March stands at 140...a long way to go!
